While it’s true that each Sandals resort has been designed specifically to foster a romantic vibe for couples, it is possible to visit them if you’re not part of a couple. In fact, we often find families, friend groups, and others at Sandals, although the overwhelming majority of other guests are there for a romantic getaway.

Is Sandals moving from “couples only” to “adults only”?
Lately, we’ve noticed that the Sandals marketing strategy seems to be shifting away from just couples to more of an “adults only” messaging. All Sandals guests must be 18 or older, but the brand appears to be redefining its target audience to include friends, families, and groups who want the luxury and peace of an adults-only getaway as well.
However, on the Sandals website FAQ, you’ll still find this information: “Because we wanted to make your vacation as romantic and relaxing as possible, only couples may stay at Sandals. But we open our arms to welcome singles, friends, and families to our fabulous Beaches Resorts. Beaches, created by Sandals, includes all the fun, adventure, and luxury that families want most, elevating the family vacation to world–class standards.”
There are also some limitations due to the design of Sandals resorts. For example, the rooms are laid out for couples, with just a king bed and an emphasis on fostering privacy and romance. You can request a rollaway bed if you’re traveling with a friend or family member, but those are limited and not guaranteed.

Are Sandals resorts good for singles?
Sandals resorts are not good for singles traveling alone, as all room rates are based on two people per room and almost all the other guests will be couples. If you’re traveling as part of a group but want a single room, you can request a waiver from the resort. Other guests report varying degrees of success with this.
But if you don’t mind sharing your room with a friend or adult family member, you can split the room cost. Remember, though, that bedrooms at Sandals only have one king-size bed and rollaway beds are not always available.
However, some of the larger suites at Sandals have couches, and there are a few accommodation options for those traveling with friends or a larger group. These include the Villa Plantana at Sandals Royal Plantation in Jamaica, which has 3 bedrooms; the Beachfront Two-Bedroom Butler Villas with Private Pool at Sandals St. Vincent; and a new 4-bedroom butler villa at Sandals Ochi in Jamaica.
Are Sandals resorts good for friends and families?
Yes, it can be fun to visit a Sandals resort with friends or adult family members.
While there will still be a primarily romantic atmosphere, with most amenities and activities designed for couples in love, Sandals resorts can provide the perfect setting for a girls’ trip where you can just relax and hang out, knowing you won’t be bothered by unwanted attention.
It can also be great for family trips with adult children, especially when members of the family have differing interests since there are so many included activities available. However, if you have any children under 18, you’ll need to go to a Beaches resort, which offers the same level of luxury and service but is family friendly. There are three Beaches resorts: Beaches Turks & Caicos, Beaches Negril, and Beaches Ocho Rios.
Best Sandals Resorts If You’re Not a Couple
Sandals St. Vincent
Sandals St. Vincent offers two-bedroom beachfront villas for those who are traveling with friends or family. These luxurious villas have private pools and patios with oversized soaking tubs, two bedrooms with their own bathrooms, and a separate living and dining area. They also come with personal butler service for the ultimate luxury. There are also suites with separate media rooms that have a couch in them.

One of the newest Sandals resorts, Sandals St. Vincent is known for its stunning setting between the beach and lush mountains, warm and friendly service, great pools, and outstanding cuisine.
When we recently visited Sandals Saint Vincent there was a corporate group there. This was the first time I had been at Sandals where one group shifted the vibe of the resort since they took over the pool area we were at.
Sandals Ochi
Sandals Ochi has a new villa available with 4 one-bedroom suites that is designed specifically for groups. Each suite has its own living area, full bathroom, and private patio or balcony. The villa also has a spacious common living area, a large outdoor patio, and a private pool. It also comes with personal butler service.

Located in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Sandals Ochi is the largest and most affordable Sandals resort. It has a ton of things to do, a lively atmosphere, and 16 restaurants to choose from, making it great for friends and groups.
Sandals Ochi is great if you are not a couple because of the ambiance and the many activities nearby like ziplining, Dunn’s River, and the Blue Hole. Several resort areas have a more lively atmosphere instead of a couples-only romantic vibe.
Sandals Royal Bahamian
Sandals Royal Bahamian stands out as one of the most vibrant and dynamic resorts in the Sandals portfolio, making it an exceptional choice for singles looking to enjoy a social atmosphere. While all Sandals properties are designed for couples, Royal Bahamian’s lively party vibe sets it apart.
The resort’s proximity to Nassau also opens the door to exploring local nightlife, going to a casino, and enjoying off-resort restaurants and culture, ensuring that the fun doesn’t stop at the resort gates.
Sandals Barbados & Royal Barbados
While designed primarily for couples, this resort stands out as a fantastic option for singles traveling in groups or those who enjoy a lively and engaging environment. You’ll find the only bowling alley at any Sandals Resort, a draft beer bar and a lively pool area with a DJ and other activities throughout the day.
